About Me
Justin Ancheta’s (He/They) experimental creative non-fiction seeks to connect with those grappling with questions about asexuality, queerness, racialization, and disability. His writing reminds readers that they are not alone, and not broken in their struggles with compulsory sexuality.
His writing has been featured in carte-blanche, Voices from the FOLD, QT Literary Magazine, and AZE Journal, with new writing forthcoming in the Tahoma Literary Review.
In between moments spent supporting other’s journeys in exploring the bi+ and ace experience on Twitter, Justin spends his time meditating and writing on the queerness of the tarot.
On flags and colours
The colours I’ve used for this website are inspired from the colours of the (very unofficial) Asexual Spectrum flag, created by Tumblr user theflagarchive in July 2020, which I discovered at the Asexual Wiki [1]. The dark blue stripe represents the history and solidarity of the asexual community; the purple stripe comes from the asexual flag and represents all asexual identities. The pink stripe represents self-determination, pride in one’s identity, and acceptance of one’s own and others’ asexuality. The cream stripe represents diversity in experiences and types of attractions [2].
Flags, like so many other talismans of the asexual community, are fun and personal ways of creatively expressing ourselves in the queer community. When expressing my queer identity, I use other pride flags, including the biromantic demisexual flag, and the asexual flag (which is important given how the term asexual has now become a more inclusive umbrella term). But speaking personally, there’s something really affirming and encouraging for me about the Asexual Spectrum flag and what it represents.
As someone who identifies as aspec (on the asexual and/or aromantic spectrums) and ace (on the asexual spectrum), this flag is a visual reminder of how important it is to make space for all diverse backgrounds in asexuality and aromanticism.
